Direct answer
Write the base-stay promise first. Keep every unavoidable cost in the displayed total price. Offer an extra only when the guest can make a real choice, the property can reserve or fulfill it, and staff can see its status beside the reservation.
Put simple enhancements in booking, schedule-dependent experiences in pre-arrival communication, and spontaneous purchases on property. Measure fulfilled and refunded items separately from cart additions.
The operating problem
A sold extra is a promise, not a line item.
A late-arrival firewood bundle feels thoughtful when it is dry, stocked and waiting at the correct cabin. The same offer becomes a broken promise when the guest pays, arrives after dark and finds nothing.
The operating-stack guide maps systems from booking to return visit. This guide asks a narrower question: which extras deserve a place in that journey?
Protect the base stay
Do not sell back what the room already promises.
Define the accommodation, essential utilities, ordinary arrival and promised amenities before creating packages. If an item is required to use the stay as advertised, calling it an enhancement does not make it optional.
The FTC’s current short-term lodging guidance requires the displayed total price to include mandatory charges, subject to limited exclusions. It also explains that pre-checked or opt-out charges are not genuinely optional. The booking flow, confirmation and staff explanation should tell the same price story.
Separate included amenities, booking enhancements, scheduled experiences, on-property purchases and package rates. They may share software, but they do not share capacity, fulfillment or cancellation behavior.
Place the offer
Show it when the guest can make the decision.
A pet package, arrival basket or clear room enhancement may fit the booking path. A guided outing or reserved wellness session usually needs dates, participant capacity, weather information and a cancellation rule, so it often belongs after the room is confirmed.
On-property offers should solve an immediate need or deepen the place. The camp-store guide covers the receiving, stocking and close-out work behind those purchases.
RezStream’s 2026 show profile and current documentation describe packages, optional enhancements, POS items and gift certificates. AutoCamp’s current offers pages show distinct offers with named eligibility and components. These first-party pages do not prove fit or results. They show the records and descriptions an owner should demand from the proposed flow.
Control fulfillment
The room and the experience need separate capacity.
Ten open cabins do not create ten sauna times, guide seats or celebration setups. Define the capacity unit, authoritative count, sales cutoff, overbooking rule and person who resolves a conflict. Lead time, weather and provider failure also need an explicit branch.
Every paid extra should create an operating record. A room setup needs the cabin, date, task owner and completion status. An experience needs participant count, time and provider confirmation. A physical item needs stock. The payment-flow guide keeps its charge and refund traceable beside that delivery record.
Test date changes, room moves, the last time slot, provider cancellation, an add-on-only refund and an offline fulfillment list before release. Save the timestamps and name the person who owns each exception.
Measure delivery
Count fulfilled promises, not only purchases.
Define revenue per stay under one accounting treatment and one period. Keep taxes, mandatory charges, canceled reservations, unredeemed gift certificates and provider pass-through amounts in their proper records rather than mixing them into a convenient dashboard total.
Track eligible stays, offers shown, purchases, fulfillment, refunds, substitutions and complaints by offer. An attachment rate can rise while the property creates more refunds and staff work. A modest offer that is delivered consistently may serve the property better than a prominent one that repeatedly fails.
Before publication, give each offer one page with its components, eligibility, total charge, capacity source, cutoff, task owner, change and refund rules, accounting treatment and pause signal. If the card cannot name a fulfillment owner, the offer is not ready for sale.
Planning boundary
Use the calculator to expose work, not forecast sales.
The UNIKOST project calculator can organize property, guest-use, amenity and operating workstreams before the offer set is designed. It does not calculate price, demand, revenue, occupancy, margins, taxes, staffing, legal compliance or package performance.
FAQ
Common add-on and package questions.
What are good add-ons for a glamping property?
Good candidates fit the place, are genuinely optional and can be fulfilled reliably. The right list depends on capacity, staffing, partners and what the base stay already promises.
When should a guest see an add-on?
Show a simple enhancement during booking, a schedule-dependent experience after the room is confirmed, and a spontaneous convenience purchase on property.
Should mandatory cleaning or amenity charges be add-ons?
No. A charge the guest must pay is not genuinely optional. For U.S. short-term lodging, review the FTC total-price and fee-disclosure requirements for the actual flow.
How should a property measure add-on performance?
Track eligible stays, offers shown, purchases, fulfilled items, refunds, substitutions and complaints under a defined accounting treatment.
Can the UNIKOST calculator forecast add-on revenue?
No. It can expose operating workstreams, but it does not calculate price, demand, attachment rate, revenue, margin, tax, staffing or performance.
